Another 257 COVID-19 cases, 5 deaths reported Monday in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose 257 on Monday, with five more deaths reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.

The state now estimates that there are 16,738 active cases of the disease in Utah. There have been 4,493 more vaccinations since Monday, the health department reported.

The average continuous number of seven positive days a day is now 636, according to the health department. The positive daily test rate for that period compared to the ‘people over people’ method is now 11%. The positive daily test rate, averaged over seven days, calculated using the “test over test” method, is now 5.1%.

There are 214 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 89 in intensive care, state data show. About 66% of all beds in intensive care units in Utah are now occupied, including about 68% of the state’s 16 referral hospitals. About 47% of all non-ICU hospital beds in the state are filled.

A total of 721,029 vaccines were administered in the state, up from 716,536 on Sunday. Of these, 256,554 are the second dose of vaccine.

The new figures indicate a 0.07% increase in positive cases on Sunday. Of the 2,208,924 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.8% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests performed since the beginning of the pandemic is now 3,813,782, up from 6,517 on Sunday, state data show. Of these, 3,133 were tests in individuals who had not been previously tested for COVID-19.

The five deaths reported Monday include:

  • A man from Iron County, who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
  • A man from Kane County who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when he died
  • Two men from Salt Lake County who were between 65 and 84 years old and were hospitalized when they died
  • A man from Salt Lake County who was between 45 and 64 years old and was hospitalized when he died

Utah’s total month provides 371,492 confirmed cases in total, with 14,724 total hospitalizations and 1,940 total deaths from the disease. A total of 352,814 cases in Utah COVID-19 are now considered recovered, according to the health department.

Spencer Cox, the governor of Utah, is scheduled to provide the weekly pandemic update at 11 a.m. Thursday, according to his office.
