SALT LAKE CITY – The number of COVID-19 cases in Utah rose 173 on Monday, with one more death and 2,326 reported vaccinations, according to the Utah Department of Health.
Currently, an estimated 9,242 cases of COVID-19 are active in Utah, according to the health department. According to the health department, the average number of positive seven-day positive cases is now 397. The positive daily test rate for that period compared to the ‘people over people’ method is now 7.1%. The average positive seven-day test rate calculated using the ‘test-by-test’ method is now 3.5%.
There are now 121 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, including 47 in intensive care, state data show. About 64 percent of all hospital beds in Utah’s intensive care units are now occupied, including about 67 percent of ICU beds in 16 referral hospitals in the state, state data show. About 47% of non-ICU hospital beds are now occupied in Utah, state data show.
A total of 1,498,039 doses of vaccine were administered in the state, up from 1,495,713 on Sunday. A total of 976,434 Utahns received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 565,539 are now considered fully vaccinated. A total of 1,734,950 doses of vaccine have been shipped to Utah so far.
The new figures indicate a 0.04% increase in positive cases on Sunday. Of the 2,413,193 people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, 16.1% tested positive for COVID-19. The total number of tests performed during the pandemic increased to 4,294,735, up from 3,778 on Sunday. Of these, 2,111 were tested in individuals who had not been previously tested for COVID-19.
The death reported on Monday was a woman from Utah County, who was between 65 and 84 years old and was hospitalized when she died, according to the health department.
Monday’s total provides Utah with 387,514 confirmed cases in total, with 15,625 total hospitalizations and 2,133 total deaths from the disease. An estimated 376,139 COVID-19 cases in Utah are now considered recovered, according to the health department.
Utah House Bill 294, which is also known as the state’s COVID-19 “endgame” bill, requires that all Utah state and local health orders related to the pandemic end on the day that the state’s 14-day case rate is less than 191 per 100,000 people, the seven-day average use of the COVID-19 intensive care unit is below 15%, and 1,633,000 primary doses of COVID-19 vaccine were allocated in Utah.
Since Monday, the state has been meeting the threshold in the first two values. The 14-day average case rate is 179.4, and the seven-day average of the COVID-19 ICU is about 9.4%, according to state data. However, Utah has received only 920,515 prime doses of the vaccine since last week, according to health officials. The state is expected to reach 1,633,000 prime doses allocated in the second or third week of May, according to the health department.
