Four years ago, today, on March 3, 2017, Nintendo Switch was launched for the first time in most regions around the world.
With its monstrous sales records and incredible game library, it’s not easy to remember how different things were for Nintendo before the Switch arrived. We all know the story of Switch’s predecessor, the Wii U – and how, despite a strong range of people from the first part, it eventually disappointed in terms of sales and third-party effort – but the new Nintendo console seems to have completely transformed things for the better.
Switch arrived in style in March 2017, launching alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – one of the best release titles the world has ever seen and, indeed, one of the most great games of all time, according to critics. The system already had its killer application on day one, but sales, success and overall positivity have continued to flow since then.
As the console reaches “the middle of its life cycle,” Nintendo is confident it will surpass the Wii. With a future list of games included The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Shiny Pokémon Diamond and Shiny Pearl, Monster Hunter Rise, Metroid Prime 4, Splatoon 3, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case.
