An excellent ambassador and friend

Robin Bernstein ends his mission in the Dominican Republic, leaving a broad trail of support initiatives in the areas of youth, sports, education and security and financial cooperation.

His best feature, however, was his affectionate way of dealing with the Dominicans, which he always showed with the sympathy and simplicity with which he shared in any environment, without falling into the cold detachment that diplomatic practice often requires.

Unlike other colleagues, who took up the representation of the US government with the petulance or arrogance of former proconsuls, this lady was an example of natural empathy who identified with many social goals, without resorting to foolish imposition.

She dealt with relations between the United States and our country in very delicate moments, without conveying political ridiculousness, as a friend of our values, to a large extent as a reflection of the permanent gratitude of the Jews, of her race, for the welcome that she received. gave this land during the diaspora.

He showed dedication and helped a lot in formulating a plan to cope with natural disasters, to ensure the future of young athletes and sports, the fight against drug trafficking and corruption, the training of teachers and students in distance learning and the fight against COVID-19.

In this latter aspect, he managed to get the United States to donate $ 9 million to programs to strengthen health care for the population, including critical equipment for 13 hospital centers and two mobile hospitals with intensive care fans.

Her smile and kindness will remain as indelible memories among the Dominicans who saw her assimilate and identify with many of the features of our idiosyncrasy and who will surely miss her before her departure.
