American Airlines begins home wine delivery service with its unused product

As alcohol sales were suspended on many airlines during the COVID-19 pandemic, American Airlines has found a way to use its unused product by offering a new home wine delivery service, the company announced on Thursday.

The new program, called Flagship Cellars, contains bottles from the American Airlines wine collection usually served to those who book “Flagship” tickets – a luxury ticket option available only on international and transcontinental flights.

Consumers can choose from individual bottles priced between about $ 13 and $ 40, a mixed package starting at about $ 50 and up to $ 400 for a box of champagne, or they can opt for the $ 99 monthly subscription plan. A variety of brands are offered through the program, including Stag’s Leap and Castlenau.

“For wine lovers around the world, wine provides a deeper connection to the places they enjoy visiting,” Alison Taylor, director of American Airlines, said in a statement.

Members of the American Airlines loyalty program will earn two miles for every dollar spent on the Flagship Cellars program, the statement said.

“We created Flagship Cellars to give customers more ways to enjoy our Flagship wine, even if it doesn’t fly in one of our premium cabins,” an airline spokesman told The Hill.

The program was also created as a way to present the airline’s more luxurious flight offers.

“It also gives them a taste of what you can enjoy in Flagship First or Flagship Business,” an American Airlines spokesman told CNN.

The company hopes the delivery service will bring in about $ 40,000 to $ 50,000 in the next few months, CNN reports.
