Amazon is expanding its air fleet with the purchase of 11 aircraft

New York, USA.

Amazon announced on Tuesday that it has bought 11 Boeing 767-300 aircraft to airlines Delta and WestJet to strengthen its air fleet in the face of increasing internet orders.

In a statement, the e-commerce giant explained that the four devices purchased from WestJet are currently being transformed from passenger into cargo configuration and will join Amazon operations this year.

Meanwhile, the seven Delta planes will be incorporated in 2022 and will ensure that Amazon has an additional transportation capacity for years, according to the company run by Jeff Bezos.

“Our goal is to continue to serve customers in the United States as expected from Amazon, and buying our own aircraft is a natural step toward that goal,” said Sarah Rhoads, vice president of Amazon Global Air.

According to Rhoads, the combination of owned and leased aircraft allows Amazon to better manage its operations and meeting customer expectations, whose orders exploded during the pandemic.

Amazon has indicated that it will continue to use other companies to operate the flights of these new aircraft, the price of which has not been announced.

Seattle’s sales have multiplied since the outbreak crisis covid-19 and in the first nine months of the year, they amounted to $ 260,509 million, 35% more than the 193,086 million recorded in the same period in 2019.

Due to this, the net profit of Amazon rose to 69% in September to $ 14.109 billion.
