Amazon buys 11 planes to increase its carrying capacity

NY – Amazon bought 11 planes from the airlines Delta and WestJet to increase its fleet and be able to bring products to consumers faster.

On its blog, the company reported on Tuesday that it is the first time it has purchased aircraft for its shipping network. For the past two years, Amazon has leased aircraft for this purpose.

“Having a combination of leased and owned aircraft will allow us to better manage our operations,” said Amazon Global Air Vice President Sarah Rhoads.

The company focused on trying to deliver its own parcels and relying less on postal services or shipping companies such as UPS. In addition to its fleet of aircraft, the company has distribution centers at airports, has built warehouses near residential areas and has started a program through which third parties can deliver their products using trucks painted with the Amazon logo.

The 11 planes, all Boeing 767-300s, will be adapted to carry cargo instead of passengers, the company said.

The four buyers from WestJet from him will be added to the corporate fleet this year, and the seven from Delta will be added next year. In total, by 2022, the company will have 85 aircraft.

Amazon.com Inc. refused to disclose how much he paid for the aircraft.
