Super Smash Bros. Ultimate patch 10.1.0 felt pretty overwhelming for those expecting major adjustments to the game’s balance. Aside from adding Sephiroth to the game list for those who never completed the Sephiroth Challenge while it was available, this patch focused mostly on the fact that multi-hit moves behave more consistently.
However, there has been a special change with Olimar, which probably makes no sense to anyone who has not played Olimar in the last two years. “After throwing a Pikmin with a side attack or a special part, if there are other Pikmin nearby when used specifically, there will be an air attack using a Pikmin.” The Beefy Smash Doods recently uploaded a video showing exactly what this and other 10.1.0 changes mean during the game.
In essence, any of the Olimar antennas involving Pikmin – forward antenna, down antenna, ascending antenna and rear antenna – would have failed previously if Olimar had entered the appropriate command during a situation where the special activation was active and Pikmin was far by Olimar due to the use of special front or side smash.
Funny enough, this special change was actually implemented in patch version 10.0.0. We are only told about the fix in the notes for update 10.1.0.
Some people say that Fox McCloud was the “big winner” of the patch due to the improvements of the hitbox for its front antenna and its lowered antenna. These attacks are important to Fox because they allow specific hit confirmations in moves that KO.
