Alexi Laiho, the lead man of the Finnish metal band Children of Bodom, dies suddenly at 41

“With heavy hearts and great sadness, we must announce the passing of Alexi Laiho,” said a statement released by Napalm Records on behalf of Bodom After Midnight.

“We are absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the sudden loss of our dear friend and band member,” the statement, signed by bandmates Daniel, Mitja and Waltteri, he added.
In a statement on Laiho’s official Facebook page, the musician died last week at his home in Helsinki, adding that he has suffered from long-term health problems in recent years.

Laiho was the guitarist and vocalist of the metal band Children of Bodom, which was formed in 1993 under the name IneartheD, until the group played its last show in 2019.

The band has sold over 250,000 records in their native Finland and is one of the best-selling artists in the country, according to their website, with Laiho being voted “Best Metal Guitarist” by readers of Guitar World magazine.

The guitarist has received several other international awards for his music and has received a Metal Hammer Golden Gods award, according to Bodom After Midnight.
