Älex Saab: Cape Verde will appeal before handing over to DEA – Investigative Unit

The Cape Verde Supreme Court has just notified the US Justice that, although it has given its approval the extradition of Álex Saab to that country, before handing it over, you must wait for the constitutional appeal to be filed.

So Saab will not be able to transfer to Miami for the next few hours, as the DEA expected: “It could take between two weeks or two months.”

Federal sources say there is an annotation in the ruling notice warning that this right must be respected.

Defense statement

Saab’s defense for its part described Cape Verde’s decision as a disgrace.

“This is an extraordinary and unprecedented act of disobedience on the part of Cape Verde. It’s an embarrassing day for ECOWAS, ”said Femi Falana, responsible for Saab’s defense before the West African court, ECOWAS.

In a last-minute statement, the Barranquilla defense added, “The decision can only be described as” extraordinary and unprecedented “(…) and on Monday challenged the ECOWAS Court of Justice decision ordering his immediate release.
