The Barlavento Court of Appeal in Cape Verde has just paved the way for Barranquillero Álex Saab Moran’s extradition to the United States, which is demanding her for a mega money laundering operation.
This was reported by the defense of the aforementioned character of Nicolás Maduro – in an e-mail sent to EL TIEMPO – who has already announced that he will appeal the decision to the Supreme Court of Justice.

“This decision directly contradicts the ECOWAS Tribunal’s order of December 2020 to suspend the extradition proceedings against Special Envoy Alex Saab until the main hearing, which is scheduled for February 4 in Abuja,” the statement said.

He added: “The decision of the Court of Appeal is not surprising and continues only a series of deplorable decisions in which the Cape Verdean courts refused to systematically address the arguments presented by the defense of the special envoy, violating the law and the Constitution.”
Nicolás Maduro tried to give Saab immunity by appointing him plenipotentiary ambassador.
From now on, they announce that the defense will appeal to the Supreme Court of Justice and will challenge “in the most energetic way possible the injustice of today’s decision.
It is also our intention to emphasize what constitutes a serious disregard for the Cape Verde Court of Appeal to the Honorable ECOWAS Regional Court. “

Cape Verde sources told EL TIEMPO that the case is now before the Supreme Court (which already had it in its hands) to review the required adjustments and continue to rule on the merits: “This can happen in the next 15 days.” .
This is the office with which Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza is asking Saab to assume immediate positions in Ethiopia.
Once this happens, if the Supreme Court’s decision is ratified, Saab will leave for Miami, despite the fact that Venezuela has tried to grant him immunity by appointing him plenipotentiary ambassador to Africa.

For the United States, it is clear that Saab is the key to reaching agreements between the Maduro regime with Iran, Turkey and Russia that could jeopardize the security of this part of the hemisphere.
