Alex Colome reaches an agreement with the Minnesota Twins

Nearly free agent Alex Colome has agreed to a deal to join the Minnesota twins, a source told Jeff Passan, ESPN, on Wednesday.

The deal is for a year with a club option and $ 6.25 million guaranteed, according to the source. Colome’s base salary for 2021 will be $ 5 million, while the base salary for the option year will be $ 5.5 million.

Colome spent the last two seasons as the closest to the Chicago White Sox, who took over Liam Hendriks – considered the closest to the free agent market – in January.

Colome, 32, has a career-high ERA of 2.95 and 138 saves in eight seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, Seattle Mariners and White Sox.

He was named All-Star in 2016 and finished first in saves in the American League in 2017 with 47 while with the Rays. He was traded with the Mariners during the 2018 season and then was acquired by the White Sox in November 2018. He continued to have one of his best years in 2019, when he turned 30 out of 33 rescue opportunities and passed with 4-5 with a 2.80 ERA.

Colome made his post-season appearances after the 2020 season shortened by the pandemic, winning a two-game save and a 0.00 ERA as the White Sox were eliminated in the AL wild-card series against Oakland Athletics.
