Alcohol Licenses Licensed for 5 Additional Michigan Companies Suspended for COVID Violation

DETROIT – On Tuesday, the Michigan Beverage Control Commission suspended licenses and permits for five additional beverages.

The state agency said the action was taken against companies for violating the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services extended COVID restrictions.

Business that violated MDHHS command include Brooklyn’s in Wyandotte, Powell’s Pub in Ypsilanti, Mike’s Sports Page in Charlotte, Plymouth ROC Restaurant and the Sahara Restaurant in Sterling Heights.

Companies are scheduled to appear before an administrative law judge on December 30 for a virtual hearing to determine whether suspensions should continue or whether other fines and sanctions will be imposed.

“Licensees are strictly prohibited from allowing indoor gatherings, as defined by the MDHHS Gatherings Order and Face Mask, in the authorized premises. Moreover, these prohibited rallies, held without requiring employers to wear masks, pose an immediate threat to public health, safety and welfare. Allowing this activity to continue could create additional outbreaks of COVID-19, “the state of Michigan said in a press release.

He continued, “Any licensed unit that violates the MDHHS emergency order will be held strictly liable and risk the suspension or revocation of its license. All licensees must comply not only with the MDHHS Orders, but also with the orders of the local health department and local ordinances on low employment rates and social distancing protocols related to the COVID-19 pandemic. ”
