Alabama Shakes drummer Steven William Johnson was arrested earlier this week on charges of child abuse in Limestone County, Alabama, according to WHNT in Huntsville. A grand jury charged him with “intentional torture, intentional abuse and cruelty or intentional abuse of a child under the age of 18”. His notification is scheduled for April 7, 2021.
In March last year, Johnson pleaded guilty to a 2019 violation of a protection order against domestic violence in March last year, according to WHNT. He is a founding member of the Alabama Shakes and has played in both since 2012 Boys girls and 2015 Sound and color. The group took a break in 2018, while frontperson Brittany Howard turned her attention to her solo work. Pitchfork contacted Alabama Shakes representatives for comments.
