TEMPE, Arizona – AJ Green, the receiver of the new Arizona Cardinals, says he still has “a lot in the tank” and doesn’t think he has anything to prove by signing with another team for the first time in his career.
“I still feel young,” Green, 32, said at his inaugural Zoom press conference on Thursday. “My legs feel young … I think I have many years left to play at a high level.”
Green has signed a one-year deal with the Cardinals hoping those legs will be able to help Arizona reach at least its first playoff posting in 2015. Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the deal is worth up to $ 8.5 million. dollars and includes $ 6 million guaranteed.
“I think that’s the main goal, with winning a championship,” Green said. “For me, I’ve been in Cincinnati for 10 years. So for me, to go somewhere where the organization is ready to win now is incredible.”
He said Arizona was one of several teams that were “very” interested in him, but Green’s attraction to the Cardinals was how he saw fit in their offensive scheme.
“I was looking for a crime that really suited my skill set and I felt that – with Kyler [Murray] and Hop [DeAndre Hopkins] and [Christian] Kirk and the boys they have around this crime – I felt this would be best for me, “Green said.
Their stability at the helm also helped the Cardinals’ cause.
Green said last season was “difficult” because of Bengal’s three-man carousel, especially since he was coming from an ankle injury that made him miss all of 2019. But he said he felt last season helped him become stronger mentally.
“I’ve been in Cincinnati for 10 years, so that’s all I know,” Green said. “So coming to Arizona is refreshing. I think you’re looking around the league with Tom Brady, all the other guys [that] they’ve been in the same places for years and you’ve seen what Tom Brady did last year. I think it’s good. “
