US airlines are on track to raise $ 15 billion in federal aid to pay workers under the latest bipartisan coronavirus stimulus package, according to people familiar with the matter.

In the new round of aid, carriers are expected to call back more than 30,000 workers who were hired this autumn.

The CARES law in March had allocated $ 25 billion to airlines on the condition that it maintain minimum service levels and keep workers on pay until September 30.

Additional support for the struggling sector, previously reported by Reuters, would keep the airline workers on wages until the end of March.
