SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) – Smith County Fire Marshal Jay Brooks has confirmed that several family members died in a fire Monday.
Brooks said an adult and three children died in a fire at a house on DeVonne Drive, near US Highway 271 in the Starrville area.
“The information we have is that this is the mother of three children in the house,” Brooks said.
He said a man was also taken to hospital by EMS.
He said the crews arrived and tried to check if anyone else was inside the house, but the fire was too intense and they had to retreat.
The fire broke out Monday around 11:15 a.m., according to witnesses.
Units from Winona, Chapel Hill, Lindale, Red Springs, Jackson Heights and Smith County ESD responded to the scene.
