The Biden administration announced on Friday plans to use the Defense Production Act to increase supplies for the manufacture of Cfid-19 vaccine from Pfizer Inc. and increasing the availability of antivirus tests at home.

Priority assessments will give Pfizer its first access to raw materials, allowing the company to increase production and meet delivery targets, Covid-19 supply coordinator Tim Manning said at a White House briefing.

Six new companies will also increase production of home tests to make more than 60 million such tests available by the summer, according to Manning.

“This is the first succession of actions under the Defense Production Act that we have undertaken under the Biden administration in the last two weeks,” Manning said. The Trump administration has used DPA frequently throughout its response to the pandemic.

The ads also included news about a investment in domestic production of surgical gloves and intends to send 1,000 soldiers in support of state vaccination sites.
