Adam Driver grows up in the epic trailer for Leos Carax’s Annette

One of the best scenes into the holy engines– the 2012 Leos Carax drama – is a musical number in which Denis Lavant leads a procession of men on a cover from “Let My Baby Ride” by RL Burnside. It’s an evocation of another exhilarating musical moment from a previous Carax / Lavant collaboration: David Bowie’s 1986 “Modern Love” scene Bad blood. So when Carax announced it was coming holy engines it would be a complete musical film – with music by the Sparks brothers, no less – I certainly was elated, at least. Nine years later holy engines he took off our socks, the first trailer for Carax’s Annette arrived:

Annette is Carax’s first English-language effort and stars Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard as a stand-up comedian and a famous opera singer, respectively, who fall in love and have a precious baby lil together. But, of course, this is a Leos Carax joint, so things are a little more complicated than all that – there’s also Adam Driver’s absolutely amazing problem. Ridge of hair. Go away, great Strange King Leo.

Annette will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on July 6, and will hit US theaters and the Amazon Prime video later this summer.
