Activists in the three causes of the camp do not agree with a referendum proposed by Abinader

Representatives of the camp in support of the three causes, which are already celebrating their 40th day, expressed their disagreement on Monday with the statements made by the President of the Republic Luis Abinader on a bill to approve the organization of a referendum, by which the Dominicans they will be able to decide on the decriminalization of abortion.

Abinader spoke about this topic in an interview in Madrid with the president of the EFE Agency, Gabriela Cañas, in the development of the agenda for his official visit to Spain.

The president said that while he was in favor of the three exceptions to abortion, “it is a decision that involves many issues, not only health, but also religious” and “divides the population,” so people must choose.

For pro-election activist Patricia Santana, the alternative proposed by the head of state is “very debatable”.

“This mechanism cannot be used to try to decide on human rights and fundamental rights issues, such as women’s sexual and reproductive rights,” Santana said, noting that “fundamental rights cannot be subject to majority decisions.” .

He also said that motives are not a religious issue and that when we live in a democracy, decisions must be made by the majority, but respecting the rights of minorities.

For her part, Virtudes de la Rosa stressed that, although several polls and evaluations “reveal the favor of the population over the three causes, it would be a fatal precedent for the Dominican people if constitutional rights are subject to popularity.”

“It simply came to our notice then. Not with the reasons, with some fundamental right “, he underlined.

De la Rosa also stated that referendums are applied for administrative measures and not for fundamental rights.

The debate begins tomorrow

Representatives of the three cases also said that, following the debate in the Chamber of Deputies on the incorporation of exceptions for abortion on Tuesday, they will be transferred to the National Congress.

“Yesterday we organized a meeting in which we reiterate our commitment to develop a battle plan beyond this camp,” they said.

Intoxicated are stable

On the other hand, people intoxicated after eating a dessert in the support camp for the three causes are already stable, according to Patricia Santana, who also explained that she estimates that the donation of sweets they received had some toxic substances.

Santana announced that those hospitalized at the Uce medical center are already at home, and the cameraman and journalist who were also affected are still being supervised in Dominican-Cuban.

“Appropriate measures have been taken for the competent authorities to conduct investigations and to investigate any circumstances in which it could be established that there are criminal hands,” Santana said.

Meanwhile, De la Rosa said that the brownie package arrived with instructions to be delivered to a certain person, and the sender was someone known.

“The sweets came with a card that said they were sent by a person known to one of the attendants and came looking for a companion in a specific way, but that person confirmed that he did not send any package here,” the activist explained. .

De la Rosa argued that the confusing situation was caused by “people fighting ideas by promoting hatred of others” and that these “fundamentalisms lead to this type of behavior.”

He stressed that the tragedy will not intimidate them in their fight for women’s rights to decide “for their lives, for their health, for their dignity.”

De la Rosa defined the situation as a “minute sin” that they are not afraid of. ”
