Abinader on the Núñez corridor: traveling to Santo Domingo will be safer, faster, cleaner and less expensive

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, announced on Tuesday that the government is working on a massive urban transport project, which includes the urban transformation of the structuring axes of the Great Santo Domingo, the expansion of subway lines and the creation of mass transportation lines in Ciudad Corazón, Santiago.

These measures were reported during the start-up of the bus corridor on Avenida Núñez de Cáceres, the aim of which, according to the President, is to promotes access to mobility and metropolitan opportunities for all citizens.

“Included are actions aimed at creating a public metropolitan network related to regulated alternative services and articulating them with greater connectivity and efficiency of the transport system as a whole,” said Abinader.

The President emphasized that the 10-kilometer-long Núñez de Cáceres corridor connected the city from north to south. causing an impact on the mobility of over eight sectors of the capital. In addition, it connects with the second Santo Domingo metro line.

Among the measures taken by the government to “favor” the corridor are: synchronization of traffic lights at the traffic control center of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (Intrant)and give priority to buses running on the road.

In Santo Domingo, more than 10,000 people travel every day, which leads to about 3 million trips, 42% by private transport, 36% by public transport, 21% on foot and less than 1% use the bicycle as a means. transport to unroll.

“With the start of this corridor, we are working to make traveling to Santo Domingo safer, faster, cleaner and less expensive,” the president said.

Switching from caram carts to buses

During his speech, the President stressed that the implementation of the corridor represents a change in the operating system from concho car units to modern and safe buses.

“These first-class buses will provide quality and plan journeys that migrate from the private vehicle to the public as an alternative,” he said.

In addition, Abinader assured that the Dominican government will support the operator in a process of training its staff so that the service it offers is of the highest quality. “All this will mean a change in the quality of services and the quality of life for citizens,” he added.

At the end of his speech he indicated that the project is about “win-win”, and called on the union to thank the unions and collaborators “who understood the need to organize” for the benefit of the Dominicans.
