Abinader leads the delivery of over 537 thousand tablets for primary school students

More than half a million electronic devices (tablets) were received on Monday by President Luis Abinader, which will be delivered to students in public elementary schools.

The president said that with this delivery, the government reaffirms its political will to close the digital divide, one of the most important goals of his administration, and therefore ensures that the benefits of technology reach all people, leaving no one behind. .

The 537,432 tablets were purchased through the global procurement mechanism of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with an investment of 5,559,522,338 US dollars.

Today we receive and deliver 537,432 tablets. Which represents 67% of the total commitments, ie 800,000 tablets.

At this moment, I want to thank the work of UNDP and the Ministry of Education for working side by side and achieving this difficult goal, “the president said.

He explained that centralized procurement through the United Nations procurement center has saved $ 18 million in savings for Dominican state coffers.

The Minister of Education, Roberto Fulcar, said that “the 537,432 tablets we receive today, out of a total of 800 thousand devices that were purchased for primary education, were added to a total of 121 thousand that have already been distributed in Regional Education no. 8 based in Santiago de los Caballeros, we will be able to deliver one device per student to 34% of the rest, in just 7 months of government management. The investment of the devices we receive today are part of the 800,000 devices, which reach an investment of RD 8,282,618,895.12 USD “.

For the delivery of electronic devices, the schools in the 48 municipalities that started face-to-face teaching will have priority and will then be distributed to the other centers.

The tablets remain in the warehouse of the Ministry of Education in Haina, where a symbolic delivery was made to primary school students.
