Abinader describes the government’s struggle to get the vaccine

In a “desperate war” for the purchase of vaccines against Covid-19 are the countries with the lowest economic capacity, said President Luis Abinader who complained about the lack of solidarity that the great nations had. During the presentation of the “Vaccinate RD” Vaccination Plan, the President said that the Government had made every effort to obtain a patent for vaccines and that the country could produce it, but these permits were not provided.

He added that when he entered into agreements with pharmaceutical companies to receive the vaccines, “he did not ask them to give us gifts, we bought them, but neither would they take them from us.” Abinader pointed out that when he spoke with the directors of the pharmaceutical company Moderna last year, they indicated a very distant date to receive the doses, so he asked for a patent agreement to be concluded without obtaining positive results.

“I spoke three times with the directors of Moderna, with whom I did not reach an agreement. They said the first vaccine could arrive in August, I say since December, when it was already approved, which had not been approved before. To mention their incapacity, I asked them to make a patent agreement.
