The president, when giving an interview to the government on Wednesday morning, said that “it is irresponsible for this country to talk about re-election, just eight months since I came to government, with a crisis and a pandemic. . “

The head of state said that in the last meeting with the members of the Political Commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), which took place on Sunday in the capital, “it was not even mentioned”.

Similarly, he clarified that he would send a letter to PRM President José Ignacio Paliza so that this issue would not be addressed in any of the party’s meetings. “It will be discussed at the appropriate time,” he added.

“The only thing that needs to be discussed in the PRM government is to fulfill the promise we made and to lead this country out of the pandemic, to relaunch it and to create jobs, along with the health of the Dominicans and to carry out the reforms that it needs this country to move forward, “the president reiterated.

In the same vein, the President stated that the commission set up by the PRM to amend the statutes of that political organization had been set up more than two and a half years ago; and that what is involved is adapting regulations to these times.

“The first thing the PRM has is to prepare as a government party now, to respond to its people in each community, to get in touch with the sectors and what we have as a government is to address this crisis,” the president reaffirmed.

On Monday, the administrative minister of the presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, said that President Luis Abinader is not thinking about re-election, after one of the members of the Political Commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) said a reform of the political entity’s statutes to allow a new presidential term.

“The president is focusing on governing, getting this country out of the crisis and creating jobs; there is no other project or idea that will move us in this direction,” Paliza told reporters covering the National Palace.

The PRM president also added that he saw an angry Abinader when someone approached him on this issue.
