President Luis Abinader gave the first floor to begin work on the expansion of the ecological boulevard that runs from June 30 boulevard in the city of Juan Bosch to the multimodal port of Caucedo.
This is the third palace the president has given in Santo Domingo in less than a week. On Thursday and Friday, work began on the widening of Coronel Fernández Domínguez (San Isidro) and Hípica boulevards, respectively.
The expansion of the Ecological will have an investment of 2.7 billion, as indicated by the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención, of which 540 million will be available immediately for the start of works.
The viaduct will be built with resources from the RD Vial trust.
The Minister said that this highway will have a toll and a weigh-in on the Samaná Highway together with Juan Pablo Segundo to prevent heavy vehicles from entering the city.
He stressed that passengers arriving through the International Airport of America will benefit from the transfer times upon completion of this project.
The work, about 11.7 kilometers, will increase mobility in the movement of goods and passengers to international destinations and to the Yuma and Higuamo regions.
The project will benefit over 857 thousand people living in the vicinity and will generate 1,549 jobs during its execution.
The construction, which will be completed in two years, will have two sections, one will be developed in an urban area with a length of more than 963 meters, while Section II, located in a rural area, will have a length of 9.7 kilometers with 4 lanes, two after the direction of traffic.
“This will only be a normal boulevard in the section from Samaná to here, from here to Samaná, but especially for heavy vehicles going to the Multimodal Port coming from the ring road we will have a fee because you have to we avoid the access of heavy vehicles that feel encouraged to enter the city “, said the minister when he was approached by the press at the end of the act due to the confusion generated by the announcement of the new tax.
The Minister did not specifically detail where it will be located or the cost that users will pay for its use.
Ascención guaranteed that for the continuation of the boulevard, the tax will be a saving for carriers.
“In a way, it will be a saving economy for the carriers that use it and it will be at extremely affordable prices, just like those controlled and managed by the Ministry of Public Works.”
He explained that this road will prevent the blocking of vehicles in city traffic, thus representing savings in fuel.
“These roads, the transit and traffic of heavy vehicles, first offer you a fuel economy that translates not only into a better quality of the environment, but also into the country’s economy in general,” he said.
He stressed that it is probably a work with a greater impact than the one that has been carried out in the country in the last 25 and 30 years.
Regarding the completion of the section of the ecological boulevard that includes from Charles de Gaulle boulevard to the city of Juan Bosch which was inaugurated by the last government if the works were still completed, he said it will be completed together with the extension works.
