Abel Martínez defends himself against alleged irregularities in Santiago City Hall

The mayor of Santiago, Abel Martínez, on Saturday referred to the accusations of irregularities in the mayor’s office of the mentioned city during his administration, indicating that it was a case from three years ago.

Martínez stated that the case was due to unusual activities detected in the council’s human resources department, which was investigated internally and concluded in the annulment of the person responsible and his subsequent submission to justice.

“In 2018 we discovered irregularities in the human resources department of this city council, we immediately investigated, gathered evidence, canceled the official responsible for human resources and submitted to justice,” the mayor said in a video posted on social media its networks.

He also assured that the mayor’s office requested an audit from the Chamber of Accounts (CC), in order to strengthen the accusations brought against the former municipal employee.

He also said that these documents were delivered to the appropriate judicial authorities.

“I asked the audit chamber of this management to solidify the file, an audit that has already been delivered and I submitted it to the court that is already hearing the case,” Martinez said, although he did not reveal the identity of those canceled.

Abel also indicated that these events were announced in February 2018, after the discovery of the irregularities.

The mayor, who belongs to the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), accompanied the aforementioned video on his Twitter account with the message: “clarification for those who did not understand and distorted (in good faith, ignorance or malice) our efforts for transparency” .
