SF. PETERSBURG, Florida – Aaron Judge will return to the line and on the right field for Saturday’s game against the Rays after missing the previous two games with pain in his left side.
Asked what he said the judge was ready to return, Aaron Boone said, “He.”
The judge last played on Tuesday and then stayed on Wednesday, before Thursday’s day off.
Boone said the judge wanted to play on Friday, but the manager preferred to be wary of the injury-prone slugger, who has had rib and oblique problems in the past.
“It’s always good to write his name there,” Boone said. “We are just trying to be careful with him early [in the season], wanting this to become something that becomes a problem. We hope we can get over this. ”
The referee received a match in each of the previous two games, but did not feel comfortable on the bases or on the field on Wednesday.
