The stunning images show a face with a crown in the ridge, the wave of 30 meters, when it hit the shore during the destructive storm Justine.
Photographer Mathieu Rivrin captured the incredible moment near his home in Lesconil, Brittany, and said he was shocked to see the face of the Greek god of the sea.
The 31-year-old said: “When I took the pictures, the strongest waves of the storm hit the French coast.
“The waves were 10 m high and when they hit the wall, the explosion was sometimes about 50 m high.
“I saw the incredible image of Poseidon with his crown, coming out of the ocean face to face.”
“I try to show you all the beauty, elegance and life that a wave can give you.”

Poseidon was the god of the sea, storms, earthquakes and horses in Greek mythology and was often depicted riding a chariot drawn by sea horses.

The 31-year-old French photographer said the 30-foot waves created 150-foot explosions when they crashed into the sea walls.
