A patient under the age of 10 is hospitalized for COVID-19

Another minor was admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) after suffering complications due to COVID-19, reported today, Wednesday, Department of Health in his daily report on the evolution of the virus in Puerto Rico.

Agency spokeswoman Michelle de la Cruz confirmed The new day that he is a patient under 10 years of age who is in a stable condition. In this way, the minor became the second intensive care patient this week.

The first, according to the agency, was a teenager who, until yesterday, also remained stable. For reasons of confidentiality, Salud did not provide further details on both cases. The agency could not disclose whether they have pre-existing conditions.

According to health data, To date, 6,200 confirmed positive cases have been reported among young people aged 10 to 19 years and 4,048 among children aged 10 years and under.

Health statistics also show that the country’s hospitals have 72 intensive care beds and 143 pediatric artificial respirators.

In the meantime, the number of adults hospitalized today was 450, of which 80 are in intensive care and 70 are connected to an artificial respirator.

Puerto Rico adds a total of 71,342 confirmed positive cases, 4,546 probable positive cases and 55,473 suspected positive cases. Meanwhile, the death toll stood at 1,484.
