A new network of charging stations will make the “Great American Road Trip” possible in an EV

Driving an electric vehicle is a lot of fun. I drive very easily, because when you accelerate the car does not have to go through the steady movement of the gearbox. In addition, they save you a lot of money on gasoline and are great for the environment.

The only problem is the terrible worry. While more expensive electric car lines can bring you around 250 miles per charge, more affordable models still persist in the 150-mile range.

This makes it difficult to travel on the road, as you have to find a fast charger every few hours; then wait for the car to start for 45 minutes before exiting for the next few hundred miles. That is, of course, if you can find a fast charger.

So for now, that means taking the family on a Clark Griswald trip across the country is still a little affordable for most electric vehicle drivers.

However, a coalition of six major utility companies has just announced that it wants to make the great American journey for electric vehicle drivers possible. The Electric Highway Coalition aims to create a seamless network of charging stations connecting major highway systems along the Atlantic coast, through the Midwest and South, and in the Gulf and Central Plains regions.

“The Edison Electric Institute estimates that 18 million electric vehicles will be on the roads in the United States by 2030,” a press release said. “While many drivers recognize the benefits of driving an electric vehicle, such as the ease of charging at home at low prices, some are concerned about the availability of charging stations during long journeys on the road.”

“Over the centuries, travelers have had to figure out how to get from point A to B. From feeding and watering horses to filling gas tanks and now recharging batteries, ensuring there are convenient places to meet them. it is essential for these tasks ”. Nick Akins, AEP’s president, chairman and CEO, said in a statement. “With this effort, we are working to help drivers see that (electric vehicles) fit their lifestyle and travel plans, wherever they may go.”

Although the group has not presented any official map, it intends to create charging stations along major highway routes, with easy access and facilities for passengers while waiting for a toll. The group intends to provide DC chargers that can have drivers at full power in just 20 to 30 minutes.

So, after a few hundred miles on the road, you can take your family to a place reminiscent of a rest stop on the highway, where you can load while eating a bite, use the toilet, and stretch your legs a little.

“With this effort, we are working to help drivers see that electric vehicles fit their lifestyle and travel plans, wherever they may go,” said Nicholas Akins, President, President and CEO of AEP in -a press release.

The new initiative also allows people to save a lot on holiday costs. Gas can be expensive when traveling to large areas of the country. Charging an EV vehicle is much more economical, while some stations are free, those that cost money can make a car with a range of 150 miles for about 7 USD.
