Still, that water
I don’t think I can accurately assess how many times I’ve played Mario 64. Whether it’s the original hardware, DS or various collections / virtual consoles, every level is burned in my brain. But not really.
In the provocative video called “I bought a $ 1500 GPU (an RTX 3090) to play Super Mario 64 with RTX”, YouTuber Dario presents Mario 64 with tracing the rays. Now, this video featuring Wet-Dry World is a bit old, but it’s an ongoing project that could finally see the light of day.
No matter how long he tries to keep the classics down, it’s a losing battle. People will hold the water for these types of games forever and I must say that it is a blast to see the wonderful level models of the game kept like this a million times.
Of course, the community is very polarized about how much it adds to the effects of tracing rays. It’s a bit more advanced than a lot of other way projects over the years (which “improve” the look Mario 64), but I think it’s great. A wide range of projects is never a bad thing.
