A man has been arrested in northern Mexico on charges of killing his three children in revenge for his mother, authorities said on Sunday.
The Sonora State Prosecutor’s Office said on Sunday that the victims were 3, 7 and 8 years old. The killings took place on January 2 in the state of Hidalgo, in central Mexico.
The detainee had called his father to tell him what he had done and he reported it to the Hidalgo authorities, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The subject had fled to Sonora, where he was detained and returned to Hidalgo to face charges.
The prosecutor’s office said the man had an argument with the children’s mother and killed them “to cause them great pain”.
“Apparently, as revenge against his wife, he took the children’s lives,” according to the prosecutor’s office.
