A gardener of the French club Lorient dies in a terrible accident at the stadium minutes after a match

Lorient, France.

A man who worked as a gardener at the Lorient football club died this Sunday after that team’s game against Rennes, on the 16th day of the French Ligue 1, due to the fall of a structure designed to heat and care for the grass.

“A member of the club’s supply team, in charge of maintaining the lawn, died after an accidental fall from a phototherapy structure,” Lorient City Hall said in a statement.

The drama took place a few minutes after Lorient’s 3-0 defeat to Rennes, when the latter’s replacements were still in place. They alerted the accident.

Television footage in the corridors of the stadium showed players and members of the medical staff of both teams running on the field, where rescue services soon arrived.

Employees at the Stade du Moustoir also quietly participated in the first medical care maneuvers with a gardener named Yohann.

The gardener underwent cardiac massage for more than a quarter of an hour and was transferred in critical condition to an emergency department, where his life could not be saved.

According to various media outlets, this is a 38-year-old man with three children.

Police have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the accident.
