He escaped from prison and lived life to the fullest – until “Duty” sounded.
Clint Butler, a 36-year-old Briton, had been evading police for months after escaping from prison in November. But the jig was lifted after he ventured to hide to buy a copy of “Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War,” according to West Midlands police.
The fugitive – who had served 14 years in prison for 17 robberies and possession of weapons – was caught in Birmingham on January 13 after officers spotted him and a friend suspiciously changing directions after seeing police, according to the press release.
When an officer asked Butler and his companion why they were in town during the pandemic blockade, his friend replied, “I came to get the new ‘Call of Duty’ because I can’t stand the blockade,” officials said. .
The fugitive admitted that he was carrying marijuana and allegedly gave the police a false name, according to officials.
When officers said they would lead information about the weak duo, Butler confused the violent video game for real life and attacked police, throwing punches and punches, police said.
He is now back in jail and will serve two more years to get out of prison and attack the officers.
“It was a great job of our officers, acting instinctively that there was something wrong and then challenging the men,” said West Midlands Police Superintendent Nick Rowe.
“The situation escalated very quickly, but both PCs put their training into practice by restricting Butler, subduing him and handcuffing him safely, while at the same time requesting support from nearby officers.”
