A fake lawyer has defrauded 215 migrants for more than a million dollars

Elvis Harold Reyes, a fake lawyer Immigration defrauding the Hispanic community and submitting more than 215 fraudulent asylum applications for a total cost of more than a million dollars is found guilty of postal fraud and identity theft, according to court documents to which Efe had access today.

Reyes, 56, pleaded guilty to the judge on Tuesday Amanda Arnold Sansone and faces a maximum sentence of twenty years in federal prison for the offense of postal fraud and a further two years for the offense of aggravated identity theft.

According to the Florida Southern District Attorney’s Office, the Latino approached undocumented immigrants from Spanish-speaking countries seeking driver’s licenses and work permits in Florida, according to court documents.

Reyes posed as an immigration attorney despite the lack of a license and gave “false, inaccurate and incomplete legal and immigration advice to the victims to get them to hire his services.”

The prosecution has detailed that the victims hired and paid Reyes to represent them in pre-immigration-related matters. Citizenship and Immigration Service of the United States (USCIS) and other immigration agencies.

Reyes filed fraudulent immigration applications on behalf of victims seeking asylum protection and ending deportation orders under the United Nations Convention Against Torture.

In doing so, Reyes faked answers to questions about asylum applications, made up stories about threats, persecution and applicants’ fears of returning to their home countries.
