Update, 9:44 PT: This availability seems to have run out in less than 3 hours.

Xbox Series X is currently available at GameStop.com right now (Wednesday, April 21, 7:31 am PT). The site is experiencing some errors, but I have found that it works after repeated attempts. Availability meets the previous promise in the GameStop Twitter feed that a “considerable drop of Xbox Series X consoles” will become available this morning. It’s the latest availability for Microsoft’s top gaming console, which is – alongside the PS5 and various PC video cards – among the most difficult items in the electronics world to locate on store shelves. The “catch”, as it is, is that they will be purchased through the Xbox All Access program.

Here’s what it means – and why it’s not a catch at all. Instead of buying the console directly, buy it in a “subscription” program at $ 35 per month for 24 months (subject to credit approval). This includes an APR interest rate of 0%. (Read more about Xbox All Access here.) In addition to the hardware, the subscription includes Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which otherwise costs $ 15 per month. That subscription (which also includes Xbox Live Gold and EA Play) gives you access to a “everything you can play” list of over 100 games, including triple-A titles such as Outriders, Doom Eternal, Grand Theft Auto V, NBA 2K1, all battlefields and dozens more, with more added all the time. See how Compare Game Pass Ultimate and Xbox Live Gold.

At the end of the 24 months, you fully own the Xbox hardware and paid a total of $ 840. It sounds great, but you saved $ 20 compared to $ 860 that you would otherwise spend on that combo ($ 500 console plus $ 360 for two years of Game Pass Ultimate). And that doesn’t include any savings you’ll also make by not extending these purchases at a regular interest rate. Credit card.

In short, if you buy an Xbox Series X and plan to play any game beyond the single-player silver discs, you’ll almost certainly get a lot of value from Game Pass Ultimate. If it’s you, this GameStop offer is a good offer and worth following.
