A Florida child hiding in a dumpster while playing was about to die in the back of the garbage truck, except that the driver had detected the child on the cameras and the operation of the blades.
In the video, released by the press on Tuesday, the head of 7-year-old Elías Quezada is barely visible in the container grabbed by the garbage truck’s robotic arm to empty and crush it with the other trash. .
“They picked me up and threw me where a mashed potato would be,” Quezada told Channel 8 in Tampa, a city on the west coast of Florida.
“I thought this could be the end for me,” stressed the minor.
His grandmother, Carmen Salazar, appreciated that the garbage truck driver, Waldo Fidele, listened intently to the camera, noticed the child, and responded quickly.
“Within a minute he came out and the next thing he heard is the sound of the truck and a boy screaming,” said his grandmother Carmen Salazar.
Luckily, driver Waldo Fidele had his eyes on the security camera, which he said is trained to do with every cube.
The incident took place in Hillsborough County on Tuesday when Quezada hid in her grandmother’s trash can.
Fidele, a Waste Connections service representative, has been called a “hero” because he kept an eye on his job, stopped the operation, and called the police.
