  • People are considered protected two weeks after vaccination
  • On April 1, he began to show symptoms of COVID-19 and was confirmed positive
  • Last week his condition worsened and he was taken to JFK Medical Center
  • The J&J vaccine is 72% effective in the United States, which means that 28 out of 100 will continue to be infected

A New Jersey man is fighting for his life in the hospital with COVID-19, despite being vaccinated against the virus.

Francisco Cosme, 52, was vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson single-shot vaccine on March 6 – traveling from his home in Edison, New Jersey to Manhattan, to jab him.

The vaccine is considered effective after two weeks, and Cosme continued to follow the CDC’s advice on social distancing and facial masks.

However, his daughter, Michelle Torres, 31, told The New York Post that she fell ill on April 1.

“She had a cough, a fever, chills, everything,” she told the newspaper.

Torres took her father to a clinic where he tested positive for COVID-19 and was asked to quarantine for ten days.

His condition continued to deteriorate, and last week he noticed her father struggling to breathe and called 911.

Cosma was given oxygen and taken by ambulance to John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Union City, New Jersey.

Torres said her father is in critical condition and is being treated for pneumonia.

“I try to keep her together, you don’t know what happens every day,” she told the newspaper.

“The doctor said they did everything they could and it is up to him to fight to God.”

Torres told the publication her mother, her husband and her children also all tested positive for the virus.

“I survived the whole year without him [the vaccine] – we do all the things we should do: social distancing, hand washing and masking, ”she said.

“It’s crazy and we need answers.”

She did not specify whether he has pre-existing conditions.

None of the COVID vaccines currently administered are 100% effective.

On April 4, Ashley Allen, 31, tested positive for COVID, despite receiving the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine at the Javits Center on March 10.

However, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is believed to be 100% effective in preventing severe cases of COVID, such as Cosme.

“The vaccine has been highly effective in preventing hospitalization and death in people who have become ill,” the CDC said on its website.

No one who received COVID-19 at least 4 weeks after receiving the J & J / Janssen vaccine had to be hospitalized.
