LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Michigan (WXYZ) – A 4-year-old girl from North Carolina was killed in a car accident on Friday while traveling with her family.
On Friday, January 1, around 23:00, deputies from the Sheriff’s County Sheriff’s Office received a response in the northwestern United States 23, south of Highland Road, in the report of a single vehicle accident, with possible injuries.
A preliminary investigation showed that a 36-year-old father from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was operating a 2006 Ford Expedition north when he lost control of the vehicle, causing him to leave the road and hit several trees. The wife of the 33-year-old man, the 8-year-old son and the 4-year-old daughter were in the vehicle at the time of the crash, deputies say.
During the accident, the driver’s daughter, aged 4, was expelled from the vehicle and succumbed to her injuries on the spot. Police say the other occupants of the vehicle were taken by staff from the Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority and taken to the University of Michigan Hospital for wound treatment.
Speed and alcohol appear to be factors that caused the crash, according to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
This incident remains under investigation.
