Game Boy turned 32 yesterday, and if you’re old enough to enjoy that portable device that day, you might remember Game Boy Printer, one of the craziest accessories ever made for a game console .
The battery-powered thermal printer has connected to the Game Boy and allows you to print images taken with the Game Boy camera. It had its limitations – the monochrome images were printed on a cheap roll of paper and looked quite rough – but it was typical of Nintendo’s desire to think outside the box.
It is advancing rapidly until 2021, and Nintendo is reviving the concept in a way. He joined the Fujifilm team to create a service that allows you to print screens on the Wireless Switch, all thanks to the Fujifilm “instax mini Link” wireless printer and a new smartphone app.
Using the application, you will be able to scan screenshots on the switch using a QR code and then send them to the printer to create a paper copy. You can add borders from 3 Nintendo titles (Super Mario, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and We Pokémon Snap), as well as add special effects.
To celebrate the collaboration, an exclusive instax mini Link printer is being produced, which will come in special Nintendo themed packaging. There will also be a special Pikachu-shaped rubber case for the printer.
The application will be downloaded for free and will be released on April 30, 2021. It is not known whether the printer or the application will be made available outside of Japan at this stage.
