During last night’s 113-112 loss, Portland Trail Blazers guard CJ McCollum was whistled for a 4.8-second shooting error, allowing Clippers guard Paul George to hit the winning free throws. During the final two-minute report this morning, the NBA acknowledged the error, saying McCollum should not have been called for a foul.
As mentioned by Trail Blazers defeated reporter Casey Holdahl, this is Portland’s second run-in with the NBA’s L2M report this week. In Friday’s victory over the San Antonio Spurs, the Blazers benefited from a null appeal to a last-second shot attempt by Jakob Poeltl that should have led to free throws. On Tuesday night, they ended up with the short end of the stick.
The full report can be read here on the NBA’s official website. The Blazers will be looking to develop short-term memory and get back on track in tonight’s game against the Denver Nuggets.
