CLEVELAND, Ohio – NFL project analyst Daniel Jeremiah, a former Browns scout, would not rule out a 26th-place finish for the Browns, even if they signed Jadeveon Clowney.
“I’m excited that Clowney is coming,” Jeremiah told a video conference Tuesday. “Obviously, his career was defined by more interruptions than production, but given the history of injuries, his presence will not stop me from taking a leap. If you feel like you have a boost, this is an upgrade, do it. You can’t have too many. ”
Jeremiah cited Joe Tryon of Washington and Greg Rousseau of Miami as two top players who would fit perfectly for the Browns in 26th place, while indicating that those in the first group, such as Azeez Ojulari of Georgia and Kwity Paye from Michigan, they could be gone. Both Tryon and Rousseau gave up in 2020 after excellent seasons in 2019. Jeremiah noted that Rousseau, who was supposed to go into adolescence at the start of the preliminary training process, could partially slip into the Browns because of a Pro Day. bright in Miami.
“Rousseau drank a little water after his professional day,” Jeremiah said. “I am staying with him. I still believe in him. I really like him. But around the league I think there is someone who will fall behind one and maybe in the top two. ”
Rousseau’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: “I already had several teams tell me they would take him if he was there when they chose.”
In Jeremiah’s current fake game, he makes the Browns take on Kentucky as Jamin Davis’s 26th-place defender, a great player who can cover tight ends and intercepted three passes last year, returning one for a touchdown .
“From the linebacker’s point of view, I’m in a sweet place,” Jeremiah said. “Jamin Davis is one of my favorite draft players. When you look at the Tulsa linebacker [Zaven Collins], will probably leave. He gets something buzzing as we approach this process. It reminds me of Anthony Barr, so I think Zaven Collins probably disappeared. But [Nick Bolten] from Missouri is worthy of going there, who can really run and is a good player. These are like very good options. I don’t know there’s a bad one. ”
If the Browns opt for a receiver in the first round, Jeremiah could see Minnesota’s Rashod Batemen, a designed outside receiver who runs excellent routes, and Elijah Moore, a little low-speed, Ole Miss, as options.
“Unfortunately, the receiver, unfortunately (LSU), Marshall Terrace had a few medical things that came up at Combine, so I think it could make it slip a little bit,” Jeremiah said. “I think Rashod Bateman will probably be the guy in that range late in the early two. A different style of receiver is Elijah Moore, who is undersized, but is one of my favorite guys because he can do so many different things. It’s exciting. ”
Jeremiah calls this “the worst group of defensive attacks” he has seen since 2003.
The release of Brown by Sheldon Richardson was not a “big move” for Jeremiah, but he also believes it would be difficult to find a replacement in the project. He has only two defensive tackles in his first 75-80 pick from Christian Barmore of Alabama and Levi Onwuzurike of Washington.
“The challenge is in this project, [it’s] so easy to attack defensively, “he said.” That’s what it is. It’s the worst group of defensive attacks I’ve seen since I started in 2003. So it’s just a very thin, thin year. So maybe it was an opportunity [to release Richardson] precisely from this point of view, knowing that not a lot of reinforcements are coming ”.
He considers Barmore a player in the second round, but did not rule him out for the Browns at number 26.
“It could slip into the back of one,” he said. “I think it will most likely go in the second round. It fits the profile of what the boys in the second round traditionally are by being a bit of a boom-bust player where you have high highs and then you have some inconsistent lower lows. Some of the things he had to do in Alabama, I don’t know if that suited him.
“For me, he’s more of an upfield guy. Let him use his athletics to attack an edge and move up. Asking him to play and sit there is not exactly his style, although he is a great guy at 6-4, 310. For me, he is a three-man technique, which has a real athleticism to jump into goals, for up and go. “
He believes CB Caleb Farley is worth trading Browns
Jeremiah loves Caleb Farley, Virginia Tech defender, and thinks he’s worth a trade. Farley (6-2, 207) has undergone back surgery this season, but is expected to return in time for training camp.
“He had some procedures back,” Jeremiah said. “If you feel comfortable with him from a medical point of view – he was like my fifth or sixth player in the draft. It’s a weird show. I was around Chris McAlister (picking the Ravens in the first round of 1999, three times Pro Bowler). That’s what he reminded me of, so he’s talented, great. This is just about your doctors and their level of physical comfort. If I give you good and he passes, shoots, it would be a choice at home if he shows up and is healthy. ”
He said that if the Browns were comfortable with the doctors, it would make sense to go up and get him. Jeremiah ranked him 17th in his top 50.
“He has rare movement skills for such a big corner,” Jeremiah said. “So, the calendar [of the surgery] do not help. But if you are Browns and your medical staff has done their job and gives you clean health and there is no long-term risk and I give you the thumbs up, it is absolutely someone you go for. Yes, again, I think it’s the most talented corner in the whole draft. This is one of those decisions that will not be made by the general managers, but will be made by your doctor. ”
