The fake season of the draft has been hit hard as the 2021 NFL draft approaches – now just eight days away. And that means it’s time for Mel Kiper Jr. and Todd McShay’s combined annual project.
The rules of the combined simulated sketch are simple:
- Three complete rounds, all 105 choices.
- The election will alternate with Kiper starting with number 1.
- Deception or bait is not allowed.
So how did the New York Giants go in this mock duel? Well, at number 11 they generally received a gem in the Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith (chosen by Kiper).
Daniel Jones needs more weapons, and now he will win the Heisman Trophy with the free agent who signs Kenny Golladay. This Giants crime could be dangerous in the NFC East.
Smith’s chances of being available here: 47.6%
In the second round, it was McShay’s turn to make a choice for the Giants and settled on Ronnie Perkins, an Oklahoma flyer who has become a more popular game for the Big Blue lately.
I like this match. Perkins is an excellent passenger, which is exactly what the Giants need and has good value for him in this range. He had 5.5 sacks and nine QB rushes in just six games last season.
McShay also made the Giants’ final pick at No. 76 overall in round 3, going with North Carolina defender Chazz Surratt.
Surratt has a range of side lines and can cover tight ends or running backs in passing game. He brings a different element into the line body of the giants.
All three players are interesting choices and would probably play significant roles for the Giants in goal, but do they meet all the team’s concerns? Would you like these picks in the first three rounds, Big Blue fans?
