Producer Scott Rudin says he “took a step back” from his film and streaming projects in addition to his Broadway productions.
In a statement released today, Rudin says:
“I’m retiring from my film and streaming projects in addition to my work on Broadway. I do this to take the time to work on personal issues that I should have had a long time ago. When I commented over the weekend, I focused on the successful reopening of Broadway and not wanting my previous behavior to diminish everyone’s efforts to return. It is clear to me that I should go the same way in film and streaming. I am deeply sorry for the pain my behavior has caused me and I am taking this step with a commitment to growth and change. ”
Rudin’s next film and streaming projects include Netflix The woman in the window and A24 people. His statement today did not specify the projects by name.

The statement echoes the one Rudin released on Saturday, which focused exclusively on the producer’s stage work – he currently has four projects to return to Covid’s closed Broadway with the reopening of theaters: To Kill a Mockingon, The Book of Mormon, West Side Story and the one still open The musical man starring Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster.
None of Rudin’s statements detail exactly what the “step back” entails. In the Broadway-based ad, the producer said he would take a step back from active participation in productions, with “his roles being played by others in the Broadway community and, in many cases, from the list of participants already those shows. ”
Rudin’s announcements follow a recent Hollywood Reporter story in which four former Rudin employees described workplace aggression and harassment, including episodes in which the Broadway and Hollywood producer had three items, including a stapler and a baked potato and, in one case, broke a laptop in the hand of an assistant.
Foster, who is to co-play in the upcoming $ 17 million renaissance The musical man, said over the weekend that Rudin’s decision to give up active participation in his shows was “the only positive result”. Actors’ Equity has asked the producer to release all employees for non-disclosure agreements.
