Upcoming SmartThings update lets you know if you’re being tracked

Samsung has announced two exciting new additions to its growing SmartThings platform, designed to increase user safety and provide easier access to the SmartThings Find feature through Bixby. Indeed, the integration of Bixby Voice is coming soon on SmartThings, and the company has announced a new security feature for Galaxy SmartTag.

First, the upcoming SmartThings update will allow users to find their hands-free SmartTags using voice commands. Users will be able to ask “Hi Bixby, where’s my bike?‘or any object tracks your SmartTag, and Bixby will find and distribute the exact location of your property.

The second part of the next update seems to address a potential security and privacy issue. Allows SmartThings users to prevent tracking by unknown SmartTags. In essence, SmartThings users will soon be able to scan for Galaxy SmartTags that are not theirs, but follow the same movement patterns as them. In other words, the feature allows SmartThings users to detect if they are being tracked by someone else’s SmartTag.

According to Samsung, the SmartThings update will be released starting next week. Exact availability details are missing, so there is a chance that the upgrade will gradually reach more markets over time.

“One of the fastest growing location services in the world”

With the recent announcement, Samsung also revealed some interesting information about its SmartThings platform, such as the fact that it has become one of the fastest growing services of its kind.

The SmartThings Find network now hosts over 70 million devices that have been registered since the platform’s inception. Samsung claims that there are currently over 700 million Galaxy users who can participate in the SmartThings Find network.

The Samsung Galaxy SmartTag was launched along with the Galaxy S21 series and you can find out everything you need to know about it from our review below. Keep in mind that Samsung has also launched UTB-enabled SmartTag + in key markets, including the US and South Korea.
