Microsoft’s new Xbox update speeds up downloads by suspending games

Microsoft today released a new update to the Xbox April dashboard, which will improve the way games are downloaded. A new feature will now allow Xbox owners to suspend games to speed up download speeds. Currently, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S systems limit game updates and new game downloads if another game is active.

This new suspend option can be paired with Quick Reload on Xbox Series X / S to quickly pause a game, download game updates, or download a new game completely and then resume the suspended game later. It is a much cleaner option than the need to manually leave a game or application to ensure that the download speed is not reduced.

Along with this new dashboard option, Microsoft is finally improving its Xbox mobile app to bring back its achievements. The new app was launched on Android and iOS in October, but lacked the functionality of the achievements and many other features that the mobile app previously included. Monthly rankings for achievements are starting to appear for some Xbox mobile app users, and Microsoft says “everyone will see these in-app updates by the end of the month.”
