The Boston Celtics have signed former No. 2 general manager Jabari Parker, the team announced on Friday.
At just 26, Parker has played just 41 combined games in the past two seasons, including three this season for the Sacramento Kings, before being suspended last month. He has also played for four teams – Kings, Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and Chicago Bulls – in the last three seasons.
The Duke University product averaged 14.8 points and pulled nearly 50 percent off the field during his career, but struggled to pick up his potential after sustaining a pair of ACL tears in his right knee early in his career, including one. just a few months into his debut season in 2014.
As long as Parker can officially approve the NBA’s health and safety protocols and join the team, he’s likely to compete with Semi Ojeleye and Grant Williams for a few minutes behind Jayson Tatum as the team’s backup potential.
The Celtics cut him on the center of Moritz Wagner, whom he bought in a change of term last month, together with his teammate, Luke Kornet, to open a place on the list and sign Parker.
