Microsoft released Edge Canary for Android yesterday. The new version of Edge – 91.0.858.0 – is consistent with the desktop version for Windows 10 of Edge Canary and, as a result, is a massive leap over what Edge offered on Android before. I’ve already covered the news about the launch of Edge Canary on Android, but I wanted to share a quick post of the first impressions of the application.
The current version of Edge beta on Android is 46.03.24.5155, which seems old compared to version 91.0.858.0 seen in the new Edge Canary. With this massive leap comes a fresh user interface, menu layout and improved scrolling. Edge Canary also supports edge: // edges, just like the desktop version of Edge.
The leap comes from the fact that Microsoft is unifying the Edge code base across platforms. This will help bring new features to Edge on Android and other platforms, while facilitating the development process.

Switching to Edge Canary brings a lot of remarkable improvements, but after downloading the app and using it throughout the day, my main option is its speed. If the only thing that changed between the old and the new version was the speed, I would still be happy, considering that it is as fast as him.
I know it’s a cliché to say that an update “seems faster”. It’s a recurring joke in Microsoft news circles for a reason. That being said, Edge Canary for Android seems legitimately faster. The browser absolutely flies for me. The pages load instantly, scrolling is easy, and navigating the browser feels like climbing over the standard version of Edge on Android.
Edge Canary is in its infancy, so some people have encountered errors and problems. This is to be expected with any preview application. I happen to be one of the lucky ones who didn’t face any problems. I was able to log in with my Microsoft account and zip up the web.
One person on Reddit was impressed with the ability of the Edge Canary to scale on the Galaxy Fold 2. Others appreciate the speed on displays with 90Hz refresh rates. Overall, it seems I’m not the only one noticing the massive speed for the Edge on Android.
I hope this is a piece of things to come. If Edge continues in this direction, it could become the best browser on Android.
