It’s been a busy few months for Fitbit. Even though the company has had major product launches since Sense and Versa 3 hit store shelves last fall, much has changed in that short period of time. In November last year, its laptops finally gained support for Assistant, a move made possible by Google’s acquisition of the company. Regulators approved the deal in January, and now Fitbit may be ready to launch one of its first post-purchase trackers. However, if you are expecting some kind of state-of-the-art smart watch, be prepared to be disappointed.
The newest Fitbit laptop is designed around premium building materials, according to a leak translated from WinFuture. The latest addition to the fitness-focused range seems to introduce gold and platinum metal into the body surrounding the tracker, which otherwise looks similar to last summer’s Inspire 2. Count in an OLED display, heart rate monitoring and sleep tracking, and Luxe seems to be a fairly standard device with an emphasis on design. If the shiny gold and platinum models don’t do it for you, a standard black version will be available.
Given that this is far from the “future” of laptops, we need to really know the price expected by Fitbit for Luxe before we can judge. While the actual design screams in the middle, the range of “premium” materials could push this tracker into growth, closer to Sense or Versa 3. Whether or not it’s worth the metal plating around the watch’s dial remains to be seen, but if you’re looking for a shiny fitness tracker to forget about this summer, your shine time might be right around the corner.
