Fitbit may be ready to launch a new fitness tracker soon, if the images are published by WinFuture I’m believable. The new tracker is apparently called Luxe and has a more fashionable design than the existing Inspire 2 model. It’s not clear when Luxe will be released or how much it will cost, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s priced higher than Inspire 2 by 100 dollars.
The big upgrade for Luxe is a new stainless steel body, which will be available in silver, gold or black finishes. It also has a color OLED touch screen WinFuture did not provide specifications or detailed information about it. Both the stainless steel body and the color screen are improved over the plastic and monochrome options on the Inspire 2.
Luxe is expected to have a heart rate monitor, sleep tracking and all the activity tracking features that other Fitbit portable items support. However, you are unlikely to have your own GPS radio – you will probably need to have your phone with you to map the races correctly. In addition to body colors, WinFuture’s the images show different strap color options, so it is likely that Fitbit will position this fashionable accessory as a fitness device.
Fitbit, which is now owned by Google, has built its brand on wrist fitness trackers and it seems that Luxe is very much in this regard. The company has had less success in producing a competent smartwatch, but it may inject some life into Google’s smartwatch platform when companies completely combine their resources.
